Guest Post: Creating a Soundtrack (+ a giveaway!)

When the words are really flowing during the writing process it is like music. The words hit the page, like the notes of a song fill the air. The sentence flows together into paragraph upon paragraph, as the writer I get lost in the story. As the listener of well-orchestrated music, the melody, the rhythm, and the words of the song have the ability to maintain, set, and change my mood.
Therefore, when I am getting ready to write the right type of music is key. It is like the soundtrack to a movie, it sets the tone and helps the dialogue along. When I am sitting down to write, there are times when all I want to hear is the clicking of the keys. There are other times, more often than the latter, where I like to create a soundtrack of music for whatever it is I am working on.

For the most part, I tend to go for a mellow mix, but if I am writing a climax then climatic music is necessary to really fuel the story I am trying to tell.

So that you can join in on creating a soundtrack for your writing process, this is a iTunes Gift Card of $25 dollars giveaway. Create a soundtrack for your next epic writing session.

If you happen to be curious, and want to read some more of my writings, drop by my blog. Scriptito, (the Latin word for ‘to write often’) is a word I try to live by, back in the day my first blog was entitled Scriptito because I do love telling a story with the written words.

Tell me, what kind of soundtrack would you have during your writing session? Do you prefer silence? Do you like the noises of the house? What’s your writing soundtrack?

  1. I definitely like to listen to any music in another language while working - nice to hear something different but not be distracted by lyrics :]

  2. I can't keep up with all the new music that's out now but my 18 year old daughter does so I rely on her when I have a music question.

  5. I can't keep up with all the new music either. I get emails from different sites that keep up with new artists in the various genre I like to listen to. Or simply asking friends what new song their listening to, like you ask your daughter.

  6. Z, cool seeing you around the web. When I am writing on my blog or writing a story, the music like in movies helps me create the scene. However, when I'm studying or writing a paper for school, I usually listen to instrumental. I may add listening to music in another language now, never thought of doing that.
